Workshop: Equity-Minded Reform of Teaching and Service Workloads

Research shows significant gaps in time spent by women and men faculty and white and historically minoritized faculty in teaching, research and service activities. While awareness of equity gaps and their consequences are increasing, the processes through which work is taken up, assigned, and rewarded unequally are still not well understood, in part because they often occur through unscripted work interactions.

Drawing from her research conducted as P.I. of the NSF Funded Faculty Workload and Rewards Project, (in collaboration with Drs. Joya Misra, Audrey Jaeger, Dawn Culpepper, and Courtney Lennartz, Dr. Kerry Ann O’Meara will present a Workshop entitled, “Equity-Minded Reform of Teaching and Service Workloads,” which will address how and why academic workloads become unfair, especially for women and minoritized faculty, and provide evidence-based strategies for mitigating bias and designing more equitable workload conditions, policies and practices.

Dr. O’Meara is internationally recognized for her expertise on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, and has extensive research experience on academic reward systems, faculty careers and professional growth, faculty retention and diversity issues, and faculty workload, among many related areas.  For more information about Dr. O’Meara go to: http://www.kerryannomeara.com/
